Will Vice President Harris Run Again?

After a shocking loss in November, speculation is growing over whether Vice President Kamala Harris will run for president once again in 2028–or seek another office, such as California governor in 2026?

Polls from that state suggest the Veep could win the governorship, especially since some other potential candidates for the seat have indicated they will exit contention if Harris were to seek the seat.

But many Harris supporters hope she runs again for President in 2028, citing her close popular vote loss to President-elect Donald Trump.

Others aren’t sure Ms. Harris should run again for president in 4 years; were she to do so, she’d likely face a competitive primary, which she did not have to endure in this year’s contest.

In order for the vice president to secure the Democratic nomination in 2024, President Joe Biden made history by declining to run for reelection after a widely regarded dismal debate performance against Trump. With barely 100 days to campaign, Harris would become the first Black woman to notch a major party nomination–but would also become the second woman to lose against Trump in the general election, as former Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton did in 2016.

It’s unclear what’s next for Vice President Harris. But she has vowed to “stay in the fight” weeks after voters decided they in fact wanted Trump 2.0 over the first African-American woman Presdient.
